CHATTING WITH 2MANYCOLOURS

This year was your second year playing SWAGFEST, how do you think you’ve improved/changed since last year?

I think this year I had a lot more fun with it, for some reason when putting together urlfest sets I put a lot of stress on myself for literally no reason at ALL so I’ve been starting to just have a lot more fun with it and I think the end result of that is usually a lot better lol.

Talk to me about the move from ETSY to 2manycolours. Is the ETSY project officially over? For a little bit you were doing both, what made you switch over?

To me I always though of the ETSY project as like a temporary thing for me starting out to just try and figure out how the whole big bad music world works (and BOY did I fucking find out) I never really saw it being something I’d be doing like say 10 years down the line but that’s not to say I regret it or think it was waste of time, I’m so so so fucking grateful for all the besties I made and the support I received with that project but at a certain point the music wasn’t exciting me and I genuinely didn’t know for a solid maybe year where I wanted to go in the future with my music so I was sorta releasing on both aliases trying to figure out what worked and what didn’t but I’m very very glad I’m in the timeline where I decided to lean into electronic dance music and such with 2manycolours and not the one where I’m making the most dreadful whiny indie rock music.

I would say the ETSY project is pretty much finished but who knows, I have a lot of unreleased music from it that I have thought about putting out so I’ll see but I think it was sort of doomed from the start with having a name that’s pretty much not searchable at all. I had NO idea ETSY was the name of an online store till months after I made the name and I just never bothered to change it. derp :p.

What’s the electronic music scene like in Ireland? Do people irl know about your music? Do you think you'd still be doing what you're doing without the connection the internet has brought you?

The electronic scene in Ireland is pretty fucking insane, I’ve only really entered the sphere of it in the last year ish since going to college and making friends in the scene and such but holy shit there is so much talent in it, one of my favourite albums this year came out by an Irish electronic producer called “Rhoshi” the album is called “IMAGE” it’s their debut album and it’s fucking phenomenal so so so many more people need to hear this. but yeah the Irish electronic scene is very exciting at the moment and I’m so grateful and love all the friends I have made thus far in it <3.

People do know my music ! (I think) I have a track coming out with an Irish avant-garde dance music platform/label called Ethereal Skies on a compilation album which also has some insane Irish talent on it !! Comes out on 17/11 and I’m excited as hell !!!

No way in hell would I be doing what I’m doing rn without the internet/being chronically online, the connections I’ve made online and resources have been absolutely foundational to who I am today and the music I’m making and I would like probably be nowhere without the support I’ve gotten from it. (Eg. Doing swagfest url shows)

When did you start making music, and what led to that? When will you stop?

I started messing around in fl studio in like 2018 after a friend gave me a cracked copy (that didn’t work so I was in the demo mode of it for like a year) and then like got a working cracked version of it and got properly into it and releasing music in like early 2019, I had been wanting to make music/have a creative outlet for awhile before then and I remember like looking up what I need to make music and the first google result told me to download audacity so I did but like.. audacity is not the same as Fl or Ableton for creating music (not dissing audacity I know people make crazy music in it) so I just remember like loading up a Gorillaz Demon Dayz CD I had into my laptop and like putting the songs into audacity and trying to apply effects to them and then like later on making like awful “bass boosted” versions of songs I liked at the time lmao (this would have been like late 2017).

I don’t think I can or will stop making music TBH there’s always something exciting, unless my hearing gets completely fucked to the point I can’t which I’m probably on the path for because I REALLY have not been kind to my ears the last few years but I’m definitely a lot more conscious of it now so either that or I like die lol.

You do a lot of collaborative work, why is that so important to you and who is your dream collaborator?

I think collaboration is really important and is also just fun as fuck, i think it’s important to see different peoples perspectives and approaches to making music and I feel I always learn so much from doing them, I also grew up loving playing cooperative modes in video games which sounds silly but I feel like my love of collaborating has also sort of stemmed from that somehow maybe. I would be lying if I said I don’t have any dream collaborator but I’m gonna be annoying and dodge the question and say my friends because it’s #true and i wanna always be making music with my besties <3.

What song of yours is the most they coded?

Probably my Addison Rae - I got it bad remix. Addison Rae I know what you are girl I mean they.

Who is the dream SWAGFEST 2024 artist?

Lainxoxo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What should people be on the lookout for from 2manycolours next?

I’m still figuring that out at the moment and I’m always still constantly learning where I went to go with things but since moving to Ableton earlier this year I have been making my best and favourite music yet and I have a decent amount of stuff lined up to come out before the end of the year sooooo….. #bigthingscoming

What’s your favorite color?

Ummm….. that’s 2many to pick from ! #weliketohavealotoflaughs (black or maybe light blue)
